The Spirit of Ireland team came together in late 2008 to try and create a solution that would simultaneously address the issues of:
The team joined together around proposals by a Trinity College Professor, Igor Shvets, using the massive wind resource that Ireland has, to create a pumped hydro storage facility. The key element of the business proposal is that Ireland has unique combination of factors, almost like no other country in the world. Ireland has some of the best wind conditions in the world Low population density that could make harvesting wind more feasible Unique geology that could allow for storing vast quantities of energy in the form for pumped hydro storage.
